Philosophy Program Goals and Learning Outcomes Assessments

The Philosophy Department has had a clearly articulated set of goals for its programs for some years. The goals for the Major in Philosophy can be viewed from the link below. (The goals for the Minor differ in only a few respects; these can be viewed in the LOA plan for the Minor below.)

More recently, the Philosophy Department, in common with the rest of the University, has formulated a plan for assessing some of the learning outcomes for students within its programs. The Learning Outcomes Assessment plans for both the Major and Minor can be viewed from the links below. It should be stressed that these plans do not attempt to assess our achievement of all of our program goals. Rather, we will assess just a small subset, where learning outcomes are relatively precise and easily measurable. We will not, of course, judge the overall success of our programs merely from the extent to which we meet this subset of our goals.
