 This seminar will be devoted to the topic of aesthetics and cognitive science. We will be concerned with the contribution that current cognitive science, including cognitive psychology, social psychology, and neuroscience, might make to the illumination and resolution of standing problems in philosophical aesthetics. Readings will include two monographs, Bence Nanay, Aesthetics as Philosophy of Perception, and Anjan Chatterjee,The Aesthetic Brain, as well as a collection edited by Arthur Shimamura & Stephen Palmer, Aesthetic Science: Connecting Minds, Brains, and Experience, supplemented by articles from the current literature in philosophy and psychology.
