The course examines philosophical issues in the biological sciences.  Topics include conceptual issues in evolutionary theory, genetics, and in the discovery of the Watson-Crick model of the double helix structure of DNA.  Ethical issues include questions about genetic testing and cloning.  An additional aim of the course is for the student to learn to do and to practice critical thinking and writing.  The course is a combination of lecture, discussion, debate, and group projects.
